Our traditional troop summer camp is Camp Royaneh. Last year, several of our Scouts explored other camps, including Wente Scout Reservation and Camp Emerald Bay. For 2027, we are offering Wente for week five.
What to Expect at Wente
Wente covers 2,200 acres—about six times the size of Camp Royaneh. The campsites, dining hall, etc. are centrally located, just like at Camp Royaneh, so most of that extra space—including its 80-acre lake—is used for activities.
Waterfront & Lake
The biggest difference between the two camps is the waterfront. Wente’s waterfront offers a variety of recreational and merit badge opportunities not available at Royaneh:
Rowboats
Canoes
Kayaks
Sailboats
Stand-up paddleboards
Fishing
Fly Fishing
Swimming
Snorkeling
You can earn merit badges in each of these activities. Wente also offers personalized instruction for non-swimmers—great for Scouts who need help meeting this Second Class rank requirement. Advanced swimmers have the chance to earn the Mile Swim and Snorkeling BSA Awards.
Climbing & Rappelling
Wente offers climbing and rappelling for Scouts of all ages and Climbing merit badge for Scouts 14+. Other program features include:
Open Climb: Drop-in climbing during afternoon and evening program for any camper
Troop/Patrol Climb: Units can reserve “The Rock” during evening Open Climb
Night Climb: Evening program: Climbing and rappelling under the lights
Other Program Areas
Like Camp Royaneh, Wente’s corral offers Horsemanship merit badge, trail rides, and an overnight ride. There are shooting sports, including shotgun, rifle, musket, and archery. And of course, there is a nature and conservation study area, Scoutcraft program, hiking, Campfires, and more. Their merit badge offerings are listed below. Badges in red are not offered at Royaneh:

Parent Volunteers
Sign-ups for parent volunteers are in March. We need parent volunteers to help ensure Scouts are safe and supervised. At the same time, we value summer camp as a place for Scouts to gain independence, bond as a troop, and forge relationships with Scouts in other troops. The troop partially covers the cost of attendance for adult volunteers
Find packing lists, forms, helpful tips, maps, and more in our member area.
Week Six at Royaneh
If you’re only attending one week of summer camp, we strongly encourage you to sign up for week six at Royaneh. This is our official troop summer camp. It’s where we bond as a troop, make plans for the coming year, and reconnect with camp staff and friends from other units. We are a legacy troop there and deeply connected to many of its traditions.
